Thinking of Pipe Lining?

Continue reading for the ugly truth about pipe lining repair vs. permanent PVC pipe replacement.

With permanent cast iron replacement.

  • All pipes and fittings under the slab replaced.
  • We replace all cast iron pipe and fittings with quality PVC pipe and fittings. AS OPPOSED TO PIPE LINING - The liner is cut at the joints where roots can penetrate. It also leaves a "lip" that solids and paper can snag on and start stacking sewage.
  • The sewer and drains are properly pitched.
  • When we replace your sewer we can pitch your sewer to today's plumbing codes and verified by the city-county plumbing inspector. AS OPPOSED TO PIPE LINING - The pitch of the existing sewer remains as it is. If the sewer is back pitched, bellied, etc. it will remain that way. There is no ability to pitch a sewer correctly when pipe lining. Without proper pitch, you are right back to clogged drains and plumbing service calls.
  • No root penetration in PVC pipe.
  • PVC pipe and fittings are sealed with no access for roots to penetrate. AS OPPOSED TO PIPE LINING - The liner is cut at joints which allows access for root penetration. The bathroom, kitchen, and laundry lines are not lined.
  • Replace cast iron once with PVC and you are done!
  • AS OPPOSED TO PIPE LINING - You are still susceptible to root intrusion, cast iron scale in branch lines, improper pitched existing cast iron pipe and it is NOT inspected by the city/county plumbing inspector.

In closing, pipe lining is a very ineffective and expensive repair. It is not a permanent fix for your damaged sewer drain pipes.

When considering pipe lining make sure you ask your salesman

  1. Is this a permanent solution to cast iron replacement?
  2. If my sewer is back pitched, has a "belly" or is flat, will pipe lining remedy that problem?
  3. Do you line ALL cast iron drain pipes in the home?
  4. If you do not line all piping, can roots still penetrate through existing cast iron piping that is not lined?
  5. Will pipe liner be inspected by city/county plumbing inspector to ensure it was done properly?
  6. If the other existing cast iron pipe that has NOT been lined fails, will my floors need to be removed/cut to replace the damaged pipe? If so, how will the new PVC pipe attach to pipe that is lined?
  7. Are ALL cast iron fittings lined? If not, what happens when fittings crack?
  8. Ask about warranty and what it includes. Does it include protection against future clogs throughout the home?
  9. Why would I consider an expensive pipe lining repair if my entire house drainage system will need to be replaced with PVC pipe and fittings regardless?
